I'm stoked to be one of the fortunate 50 mentoring in this year's FREE #WriteMentor summer programme. The scheme matches budding writers of children's fiction with those published or agented in the industry. (Which, as of this February, includes me!)
Are you writing middle-grade adventure? If so, please consider applying to work with me. My preferences in my own writing are for real-world settings with a sprinkle of magic, but I'm happy to read all sorts. Your story can be historical, contemporary or futuristic, but it's the story bit I love so I have my fingers crossed that there's plenty of that. I love a good mystery, so if you have a plot twist or surprise in store, I'd love to read your stuff. Likewise, I go for striking characters (including animals or other beings - such as Calcifer in Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones) - I love working on character development.
To learn more about me and my debut novel, Tiger Skin Rug, check out my website pages. My mentoring style will be informal and collaborative - we will start with a broad conversation and then hone in on particular issues that we can work through together. I expect to give initial feedback on the whole MS and then to work with you on developmental edits of certain sections. Please note, I am not coming at this as an expert, but as an equal.
To apply for the programme, you'll need to have a full manuscript ready by the submission deadline. Click on the logo above to learn what and how to submit. The window for applications is 15th-17th April, so be sure to get yours in! Let's shine!
